Thursday, August 15, 2006 (615) 268-2787 BORGES ANNOUNCES EDUCATION PLAN FOR TENNESSEE (Antioch)- Juan Borges, candidate for the State House of Representatives in District 60, today announced his three point plan on education. 1) Local control of our schools – Neighborhood and community schools are important. We need to empower parents and teachers to allow them to decide how funds are allocated and how schools operate. Parents also should be allowed choices in their children’s education, including charter schools. 2) Better pay for better teachers – Our teachers are some of our most valuable assets. The teachers who make the most difference should be paid accordingly. 3) Respect for traditional values – The Pledge of Allegiance should be recited and we need a return to school prayer for those who wish to participate. “Tennessee has one of the lowest high school graduation rates and highest high school drop out rates in the country. It’s about time we make education a priority in Tennessee again,” said Borges. “Our children deserve better than what’s being done for them now and as your representative I’m prepared to change that.” ### |
